Youth asks council for baseball-field repairs; resident raises grocery, transport and prayer concerns

Rowan Burns, a fourth-grade student at Efraige Elementary, told the council he and his teammates need permanent bases and repaired pitching mounds at The Colony and Bridges baseball fields to improve player safety. Burns noted specific needs — five permanent bases at The Colony, two mounds for The Colony and one at Bridges — and cited estimated repair costs in his presentation (he described base and mound costs and that renting a field repeatedly could recoup the investment). He referenced the city's park improvement fund ($1,000,000 referenced on page 210 of the fund document) and asked council to act to make the facilities safer.
Robert Gavin, a resident, raised three distinct concerns: the pending local Kroger closure and the resulting transportation shortfall for elderly and disabled residents (he said, "SPAN is a terrible form of transportation" and described missed pickups); his view that prayer should not be part of city council or city functions because it conflicts with the Constitution; and a recommendation that elected officials who are business owners should not operate their businesses inside The Colony while serving on council.
Council thanked the speakers; the mayor asked a staff member (Mister Schallenberger) to follow up with Burns on the baseball-field issues. No formal council action on these public comments is recorded in the transcript.
