The Colony City Council approved a construction contract for the Sutton Branch Stream Bank Stabilization project, awarding the work at the bid price of $1,296,599.39. Senior staff member Naim Khan told the council the site has experienced progressive erosion that threatens nearby residential properties and that the project scope includes rock armoring, matting, removal of some trees, and placement of rock riffraff to stabilize the channel.
Shield Engineering Group designed the project and oversaw the competitive bidding process. Staff reported the lowest responsible bidder at the bid opening and recommended awarding the contract to the low bidder. In the meeting packet and agenda the contract was identified as with Buddy Works Construction LLC; in a verbal description during the presentation the bidder name was transcribed differently. The council approved the contract; staff said the project was funded in prior capital improvement budgets and that construction would begin in March 2026 with an estimated completion in October 2026.
Council members noted prior council discussions about drainage and impact fees and asked about funding sources; staff said the project funding had been authorized in prior capital budgets. A council member moved to approve and the council voted to pass the motion.
