Board highlights DARE funding, Back the Blue event and new fire chief’s CTE support

During the Feb. 5 meeting, board members highlighted several community and program items. Speaker 3 noted the DARE program remains active with about $10,000 budgeted; Speaker 3 said roughly $7,500 will be covered by a grant and the district would cover the remaining approximately $2,500.
Speaker 3 also announced a Back the Blue event for first responders on Wednesday, Feb. 11, from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the district’s central administration boardroom; protective services CTE students and first responders are invited, and the event was described as honoring Officer Slaganski. Speaker 8, who identified himself as newly appointed fire chief, said Local 10 McKeesport firefighters will throw a pizza party for CTE students and donate surplus gear to the new protective services students.
Board members congratulated Speaker 8 on his appointment and expressed enthusiasm for the fire department’s cooperation with the CTE program. These announcements were informational; no board action was recorded on Feb. 5.
