During the meeting on Jan. 21, an unidentified legislative staff member told the subcommittee that session security concerns have grown in light of recent national events and proposed hiring two to three additional security officers to protect legislators during session.
The staff member said coordination with the Department of Administration’s General Services Division (GSD) and an official named Steve Biamonte would be required to assess logistics and costs and recommended bringing the subject to Legislative Council in February if more discussion is warranted.
The Chair invited staff to consult with GSD and report back; no formal decision or vote was taken at the meeting.
