The finance committee approved a capital project to replace approximately 109 analog security cameras and associated wiring with a new digital system.
Jerry Gallo, director of facilities, told the committee the work is part of the larger capital plan adopted earlier in the year. He said the hospital’s existing video-management software is proprietary, which limited the procurement to the assigned local vendor. Gallo described the project as replacing roughly 109 analog cameras and wiring and explained that some of the new equipment could be repurposed elsewhere, though much of it would likely need replacement again within five to seven years.
A board member asked whether the investment would be compatible with a potential new facility; Gallo said components could be repurposed but that some duplication would be required because the emergency department must remain operational for six months after any new facility opens. Another member noted a prior security analysis had recommended cameras, a visitor-management system and a metal detector for the emergency department. The presenter said these upgrades are among urgent needs already funded within a $2,100,000 capital allocation.
A motion to accept the proposal was seconded and approved by voice vote.
