Committee approves replacement sterilizer after negotiations cut cost to $133,000

Dr. Joshua Baxter told the committee the hospital vetted the vendor because the equipment must be compatible with other sterilization systems in the department. He reported an initial vendor price of $275,000 that was first reduced to $208,000 and then negotiated down to $133,000; the stated price includes a one-year warranty and a second-year maintenance agreement. "This was the only vendor that was vetted because this is specific for that area and would be compatible with our other equipment," Dr. Baxter said. He added the purchase is necessary because the current sterilizer is at end of life and cannot be repaired.
A board member made a motion to accept the proposal, the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
The approved contract will be executed under the hospital’s capital procurement processes and added to the capital asset schedule.
