Council corrects zoning map error, approves rezoning on East Wilson Avenue

Pontiac’s City Council approved a second‑reading ordinance that amends Appendix B of the municipal code to correct a zoning classification for a parcel on the north side of East Wilson Avenue between South Sanford Street and Martin Luther King Avenue. Mayor McGinnis said the parcel was mistakenly reverted to R‑1 and that the planning commission unanimously recommended restoring the previously approved M‑2 classification.
Councilman Chris Jackson, who serves on the planning commission, described the change as a clerical error arising from a batch map update. Jackson said the property owner, having completed the proper rezoning process earlier, was blocked from proceeding because the map incorrectly displayed R‑1. The council took no additional amendments and adopted the ordinance by roll call (7 yeas, no nays).
The ordinance now stands adopted on second reading to revert the parcel to M‑2. Administration said staff and planning commission members had reviewed the parcel thoroughly before bringing it to council.
