Summary
City staff reported the Donaldson Creek/Lewisburg Pike signal is in a seven-day flash period before full operation, playground equipment for The Pearl has been delivered to city storage, and staff said the city received a Safe Streets and Roads for All grant reported as $8 million federal toward a roughly $10 million project on West Main Street (SR 246).
City staff updated the Capital Investment Committee on Jan. 22 with status reports on several projects and a federal grant award.
Jonathan (Speaker 6) said the new signal at Donaldson Creek and Lewisburg Pike was placed into a seven-day flash operation to allow drivers to adjust before switching to full signal operation. "We put that in flash yesterday, and it stays in a flash for 7 days just to give people every day of the week time to get used to the signal being in operation before we turn...it into full operation," Jonathan said.
Jonathan also reported that playground equipment for The Pearl has been delivered and is being stored at the water reclamation facility pending installation. He said the equipment arrived on multiple semitrucks.
On grants, Jonathan reported the city received a Safe Streets and Roads for All implementation grant through FHWA/USDOT. In the meeting transcript, he said the grant provided "$8,000,000 in federal funds" toward a "$10,000,000" project on West Main Street (State Road 246) but the precise match and scope-related budget breakdown were not detailed in the discussion; staff said the design phase will determine where the grant funds will be applied and what additional local match, if any, will be required.
Jonathan also reported the survey for the Mac Hatcher/Hillsboro intersection is complete and that design will proceed.
Next steps: staff will move signals to full operation after the flash period, coordinate playground installation logistics, and begin project design for West Main Street to align scope with available grant funds.
