Township receives updates on HGAC 2050 plan and Water Renewal community working group

The Woodlands Township Board on Oct. 16 received two staff reports: an update on the Houston-Galveston Area Council (HGAC) 2050 Regional Transportation Plan process and an update on the Water Renewal The Woodlands community working group.
Todd Stevens, director of intergovernmental relations, told the board that the Grogan's Mill Road widening project has been included in prior RTP documents and that draft materials for the 2050 RTP currently show the project moved to the end of the planning period (year 2045). Stevens said HGAC's Transportation Policy Council will consider new projects and timing in 2026.
On water infrastructure, Stevens and Director Heiser described the Water Renewal The Woodlands initiative — a collaboration among local MUDs, Woodlands Water and the San Jacinto River Authority — aimed at modernizing aging water systems, some of which are 30–50 years old. The group has created a public website with project information sheets showing scope, area, estimated cost and funding sources. "If you're a hydrologist, you'll understand every single detail of it, but if you're not, it's okay," Director Heiser said, encouraging residents to consult the site for accessible summaries.
The board accepted both reports. Directors also praised Mud collaboration and noted a recent reduction in water bills for some customers, which was raised in discussion.
No formal funding requests were made at the meeting; staff said project sheets include anticipated costs and funding sources and that the working group intends continued public engagement.
