Board adopts amended park user fees, formalizes $5,000/day event-center rate

The Woodlands Township board held a public hearing on Nov. 19 to consider amendments to Township Order No. 020‑09, which governs park, recreation and open-space user fees, and subsequently adopted the revisions.
John McGowan, director of parks and recreation, told the board the primary revision formalizes the event center fee — the facility used for the seasonal ice rink — at $5,000 per day. McGowan explained that the fee lets the township rent the event center to large events such as the Woodlands Marathon or other private users during the period after the ice rink closes and before pavilion operations resume.
No members of the public signed up to speak for the hearing. After the public hearing, the board reconvened in regular session, called for a motion, and voted by voice to adopt the proposed order amendments.
What it means: The adopted changes place the event center fee in the township’s formal fee schedule for 2026 recreation facility operating hours and fees. The board discussed timing and whether staff should advertise rental availability; staff said they will be able to advertise the new option now that the fee is formalized.
Next steps: Staff will incorporate the fee into booking materials and may begin promoting the availability of the space for events during the offseason.
