Commission approves fire-protection contract, support letter and multiple assessor corrections; approves closed-session settlement

At its Aug. 18 meeting the Duchesne County Commission approved several consent and routine items including an interlocal fire-protection contract, a Forest Service support letter, assessor corrections to property values and residency status, and the authorization of a settlement agreement following a closed executive session.

The commission voted to approve a fire protection agreement with the town of Chattahoochee under which the town will pay $3,000 for county-provided services; the chair was authorized to sign the contract. Commissioners also approved a drafted letter of support to the U.S. Forest Service (requested by Aaron Selig) for Highlands Wilderness Trail improvements and directed staff to transmit the signed letter.

The assessor presented a batch of valuation and residency corrections affecting multiple parcels (examples read into the record included John Allen, Michael Roper, Billy Moore, Patty Torres, Marcela Gonzales and Matthew Jurgensen). Corrections involved changes from secondary to primary residency, removal of salvage structures, acreage corrections and Greenbelt status adjustments. Commissioners asked questions about specific parcels, confirmed documentation would be provided by the assessor and approved the corrections.

Later in the meeting the commission convened a closed session for pending or imminent litigation and personnel matters. After returning, the commission approved a settlement agreement in the Jensen case and authorized the chair to sign the agreement; the vote was recorded as unanimous.

What’s next: staff will finalize contract signatures, file assessor changes and execute the settlement paperwork as authorized.
