The Des Moines City Council unanimously approved a proclamation at its Feb. 5 study session declaring Friday, Feb. 6, 2026 as "Blue Friday" in recognition of the Seattle Seahawks advancing to Super Bowl 60.
Councilmember Nutting moved to pass the proclamation and Councilmember Steinmetz seconded. The mayor called for a show of hands; the mayor recorded all council members present voting in favor. The proclamation praises the Seahawks’ season accomplishments and encourages residents to celebrate the team and its fans over the Super Bowl weekend.
The proclamation was signed by Mayor Yoshiko Grace Matsumiere and will be available in the meeting packet and city records.
