Council approves $25,000 for Peachtree Creek Greenway Phase 3 study and additional services agreement

The Brookhaven City Council approved Ordinance 2026-611 to amend the city's capital improvement program and appropriate $25,000 for additional services on the Peachtree Creek Greenway Phase 3 alignment study.
"This budget ordinance ... would appropriate $25,000 for additional service in that Peachtree Creek Greenway Phase 3," said Oscar, a city staff member presenting the budget ordinance. Staff said the additional funds will support a concept-design-level review of a third alignment option that would move the greenway closer to Barone Avenue and nearby businesses.
A project presenter explained the planned third alternative would route the greenway nearer to restaurants and a hotel and noted there are elevation and potential floodplain permitting challenges: "From a plan view, it looks like it's an easy thing, but there are some elevation challenges ... we want to be able to compare apples to apples and make wise decisions and also know what all the permitting and possible impacts to the floodway issues may be before we go down a route that we can't come back from," the presenter said.
Council approved an additional services agreement with Heath & Lineback engineers to evaluate the third alignment option; the motion was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote.
Next steps: Heath & Lineback will perform concept-level design and permitting analysis so council can compare alignment options before any final route or construction funding decisions are made.
