Four new members sworn into South Carolina House after special elections

Clerk Charles F. Reed read certification letters from the Secretary of State naming Keyshawn Scott as the winner in District 50, John Lessinger in District 88, Diane Mitchell in District 21 and Greg Ford in District 98. Each took the oath of office on the House floor, repeating the traditional pledge: "I do solemnly swear...that I am duly qualified...and that I will, to the best of my ability, discharge the duties thereof and preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of this state and of the United States." The oath was administered by the sergeant at arms and the presiding officer.
With the swearing complete, the presiding officer opened roll call and allowed a brief period for members to record their presence. The clerk closed the roll call and announced, "A quorum is present," enabling the House to conduct administrative tasks for the day.
The swearing-in was ceremonial and procedural; the House did not take legislative votes on bills during this session. Members offered brief congratulations to the new representatives on the floor following their oaths.
