City staff reported that the temple’s current plan does not include timed tickets but does provide more than 500 on‑site parking spaces and volunteers; the temple plans to route incoming visitors along Center Street to a main entrance and route exiting traffic onto 835/900 East. Staff said volunteers and temple workers will assist with on‑site circulation but recommended a contingency plan (shuttle or alternate parking at nearby churches) to reduce pressure on Center Street.
Public safety officials identified the most significant risk as heavy flows coming off State Street onto Center Street during school drop‑off and pick‑up times. A city safety representative said the committee recommended directing traffic to alternate approaches and urged coordination with crossing guards and schools; the council asked staff to explore increasing crossing‑guard coverage and adding signage and lighting at key crosswalks.
Council and staff said they will continue meetings with the temple committee, crossing guards and schools to refine traffic routing and safety measures and will provide updates to residents ahead of the event.
