Lindon City Council unanimously certifies 2025 election results

The Lindon City Council convened as the board of canvassers and unanimously approved Resolution 2025-25-R to certify the 2025 municipal election results, the council announced.

City staff told the council the certified results were provided by Utah County and described an online mapping tool to review precinct-level tallies. "Our voter turnout for this general election was officially 34.5%," the staff presenter said during a summary of the county materials. The staff also reported 52 ballots were not accepted, including 21 with signatures that did not match voter records and a majority returned past the deadline.

Why it matters: Certification is the formal step that records the county's tallies at the municipal level and directs the city to transmit documents that entitle newly elected officials to their certificates of election.

Council discussion focused on turnout and vote-by-mail. A council member noted mail voting began in 2017 and said it produced "about a 10% bump" in municipal turnout compared with earlier years. City staff and councilors also compared municipal turnout with presidential-year turnout and discussed the administrative costs of in-person primaries versus vote-by-mail.

Council Member Steve Stewart moved to approve the resolution, and Council Member Van Broderick seconded. The motion passed by voice vote and was called unanimous by the presiding mayor pro tem. The council recorded that Carolyn Lundberg was elected mayor and that the county materials listed the named council winners as well.

City staff asked Council Member Jake Hoyt to sign the adopted resolution; staff said Britney will attach the county documentation and transmit the certified resolution and certificates to the Utah lieutenant governor's office and to Utah County.

The meeting adjourned shortly after the certification vote.
