Brighton Council adopts FY2026 budget adjustment, ambulance designation and new ordinances

At its Dec. 9 meeting the Brighton Town Council voted on a series of routine but consequential governance items.

Amended budget: Finance staff presented a mid-year adjustment that recognizes newly available county transportation tax revenue (presenter estimated about $34,000 annually) and recommended modest compensation/stipend increases for the clerk, mayor and council. Council moved, seconded and adopted Resolution 2025-R-12-1, amending the FY2026 general-fund budget to reflect the revenue adjustment and the recommended expenditures. The resolution passed on a roll-call vote called at the meeting.

Ambulance services: The council then adopted Resolution 2025-R-12-2, a housekeeping action designating the town's 911 and inter-facility ambulance-providers to comply with state code. The resolution was adopted by roll call.

Meeting schedule: Council adopted an ordinance (2025-0-12-1) amending the town's regular-meeting schedule for calendar year 2026; the motion carried unanimously on roll call.

Data privacy: Council also adopted a data-privacy ordinance to establish a town privacy program, designate a chief administrative and records officer, require privacy training, and publish a website privacy notice. The ordinance was approved by roll call vote.

Approval of minutes: Earlier in the meeting the council approved the Nov. 11 council minutes and the Nov. 18 Board of Canvassers minutes after a motion by Erica and a second from Jeff.

Ending: All recorded resolutions and ordinances passed as presented. Staff will implement the budget changes and proceed with the administrative steps required by the newly adopted privacy ordinance and meeting-schedule amendment.
