RDA and council approve two settlement agreements to finish downtown plaza property acquisitions

The Morgan City Redevelopment Agency and the City Council on Dec. 9 approved separate land‑purchase and settlement agreements to acquire final parcels needed for the downtown plaza and alleyway.
Redevelopment Agency: the RDA considered Resolution R2528 to purchase 428 square feet behind the former First National Building to complete the plaza/ alley assemblage. Staff said the price matched prior appraisals and that closing costs and title fees will add to the listed price. The RDA moved, seconded and approved the resolution on a unanimous voice vote.
City council: later in the meeting the council approved Resolution R25‑29, a land‑purchase and settlement agreement with Old First National Building LLC on similar terms for the same downtown parcel; the motion passed by unanimous voice vote. Council and RDA members discussed recording the parcel and dedicating one parking stall to the building owner as part of settlement terms; staff said the dedication would remain only while the owner holds the building.
Why it matters: acquiring the last privately‑held parcel clears a title and survey path for the city to assemble the plaza and alley property and proceed with planned public improvements and recorded plats.
