Morgan City council confirms two planning commission appointments

Mayor Steve Gail read and the council adopted Resolution 26-01 on Jan. 13, 2026, appointing Jason Atkin and Mark Francis to four-year terms on the Morgan City Planning Commission, with terms expiring Jan. 1, 2030. The council moved to adopt the resolution, a second was recorded and the mayor declared the vote unanimous.
The mayor also announced a written resignation from Nathan McClellan, who said in his letter he was stepping down from the Planning Commission effective immediately because of changing work and church responsibilities after approximately 12 years of service. The mayor praised McClellan’s service and urged students in attendance to consider future civic service.
Both appointees were sworn in at the meeting. Jason Atkin repeated the oath and accepted the appointment; Mark Francis also took the oath and acknowledged his appointment.
Council members briefly described the planning commission as a volunteer body that does detailed work on growth and land-use questions. The mayor said the appointments establish the planning commission’s membership for the year and thanked outgoing and incoming members. The council indicated it will consider an additional alternate appointment at a future meeting.
