Fish & Wildlife outlines hatchery, WMA and dam projects; committee asks for FY27 breakdown

Andrea (Fish & Wildlife chief of operations) and Dylan Sickles, fish culture operations manager, briefed the committee on Fish & Wildlife's capital requests, including camp infrastructure, hatchery repairs, WMA roadwork and dam maintenance.
Andrea said projects at conservation camps (Buck Lake and Keyhoe/Kehoe) and hatchery residences are scheduled for completion before the summer camp season. Dylan outlined mechanical, electrical and recirculation upgrades at the walleye and Anson facilities, and highlighted a consultant-led hatchery review (McMillan Incorporated) due June 30 to assess five fish culture facilities and inform long-term planning.
On WMA work, Fish & Wildlife flagged roof replacements at Sandbar WMA timed to avoid federally endangered bat seasons and noted statewide dam repairs with substantial costs at specific sites. Staff said some FEMA reimbursements are pending invoices and that appropriation balances (FY25/FY26) fluctuate as invoices are processed.
Committee members requested a detailed list of FY27 anticipated projects and asked Fish & Wildlife to send spreadsheets with project timing and expected expenditures to the committee for markup. Fish & Wildlife also discussed staffing adjustments (internal promotions and training academy) and invited members to visit hatchery facilities this spring when stocking resumes.
