Brea Olinda board celebrates Measure H win, outlines next steps and addresses recent safety threats

Student board member Lauren Coe said the bond — which she described in remarks as a $160,000,000 measure — reflects strong community support for school improvements and opportunities for students. "It's a collaboration that we are excited to continue pursuing," Coe said during her report (SEG 1001).
Board members described a sustained grassroots campaign of door-knocking and outreach. One trustee reported that county vote returns put the measure at 64.21% in favor at the time of the meeting (SEG 1193). Trustees thanked volunteers, campaign committees and staff who organized tours and outreach, and said certification is expected in December when final counts are complete (SEG 1199–1201).
Superintendent and board remarks stressed that Measure H funds must be stewarded carefully. A departing trustee urged the board to be transparent about project timelines and to involve community stakeholders early in planning to maximize the dollar impact of the bond proceeds (SEG 2740–2769).
Separately, board members addressed a string of recent threats made against Brea Olinda High School. A district representative told the board that "any threat of violence is taken seriously," that the district collaborated with Brea Police Department on investigations and that the most recent threats "ended without incident or physical harm to any student or staff member" (SEG 1323–1325). The district emphasized counseling resources for affected students and staff and described the disruptions caused when schools must close or when families elect to keep students home.
Trustees said safety is the priority over operational or financial concerns, and thanked law enforcement and district staff for their rapid response and late-night coordination during the incidents (SEG 1350–1359).
Next steps: board members said Measure H will be certified in December, an oversight committee will be formed, and staff will return with details on project scoping, timing and community engagement. The district asked residents to check the district website for preview nights, tours and the bond-implementation calendar (SEG 1199–1203). The board did not take new policy action on safety at this meeting but signaled continuing coordination with law enforcement and counseling services.
