Residents urge Goodyear to tackle red‑light running, staffing and animal control

Jason Martinez, a counseling professional who lives near Goodyear Ballpark, described numerous red‑light violations on a single trip and asked the council to consider red‑light cameras and permanent pedestrian protections at the Yuma & Goodyear Boulevard intersection, where many students cross to Desert Edge High School.
"I am asking the city council to consider red light cameras for future to assist with the massive influx of people and growth on our streets and add some safety factors," Martinez said. He also asked for a permanent light or a walk‑only phase for students crossing that intersection.
Solomon Jadidi, a Goodyear resident and U.S. veteran, advised the council to prioritize additional staffed enforcement rather than automated cameras, reported city‑staffing figures he located online (population ~111,805; roughly 165 sworn officers, 68 non‑sworn staff), and said the city lacks a standalone animal‑control service. Jadidi recommended roundabouts in some locations and said code‑enforcement officers lack training and tools for noise complaints.
City staff responded that they have Martinez’s contact information and that the police chief will reach out the following day; engineering staff will follow up on traffic issues. Council members thanked the commenters and said the matter would be tracked by staff; no policy change or vote on camera installation occurred at the meeting.
