Council approves replacement police cruiser and vendor payment; several ordinances left on first reading

Worcester — The Worcester City Council on Feb. 2 approved two immediate enactments and left other proposed ordinances on first reading.
Police cruiser: Council adopted Resolution 2026-06 authorizing the director of administration to purchase a new Chevrolet Tahoe police cruiser, including upfit, not to exceed $75,000. The replacement was described as budgeted and necessary after a cruiser sustained damage and was placed into evidence following an on-duty shooting.
Vendor payment: Council also adopted Resolution 2026-07 authorizing payment of $6,853.77 to a vendor (listed in the manager’s write-up as "Man Can") for leaf-pickup labor where a purchase order was inadvertently deleted. Staff confirmed the legislation amount matched the confirmed invoice and explained the payment was a procedural correction to reestablish the PO.
First readings and procedural items: Ordinance 2026-03 (storm-drainage code amendments) and Ordinance 2026-04 (aligning local bidding thresholds with the Ohio Revised Code’s annually published figure) had first readings and will return for later consideration. Council likewise heard a first reading of Resolution 2026-05 to adopt a cybersecurity program in compliance with state law.
Votes: Roll-call votes for the two adoptions recorded unanimous approval by the members present. The liquor-license hearing for Bell Stores Inc. (C1/D6 at 4784 Cleveland Road) was also waived by council motion.
