Monroe County commissioners moved through a full agenda on Aug. 27, approving routine business and several resolutions including finance reports, budget amendments, and an appointment to the county’s economic development post.
The board approved the trustee trial balance report and approved the minutes from the July meeting. The commission considered multiple grant applications: a courthouse preservation grant to the Tennessee Historical Commission described as a 90% grant for a $60,000 project with a $6,000 county match (Resolution O827-6); a tourism grant application to the Tennessee Department of Tourism for work on the Sun Building described as a 90% grant on a $100,000 project with up to a $10,000 match (Resolution O827-6b); and other budget amendments to emergency management and ambulance department accounts. The commission also authorized sale of one surplus ambulance by sealed bid (Resolution O827-6F) and approved board of education budget amendments.
On personnel and appointments, the commission confirmed Kimberly Anderson as Monroe County Economic Development Director by roll call; Anderson was present for the confirmation. Several administrative corrections to salaries were recorded as a budget correction item (Resolution O827-6E).
Several items were discussed with questions from commissioners—for example, the Archives Department grant application (Resolution O827-6a) drew multiple 'No' responses during roll call and at least one commissioner raised a potential employment conflict related to the archivist’s status; the transcript records substantial negative votes when the item was called. Commissioners also discussed how awards must be tracked for audit and state reporting.
What’s next: County staff will follow up on approved amendments and prepare procurement or contract documents where needed (for example, the sealed-bid sale for the ambulance and contracts for awarded grants).
