At the September meeting the Martin's Additions council voted to end its contract with land'use attorney Michelle Rosenfeld and handled multiple manager's report items.
The village manager presented a multi'point report that included a recommendation to end the contract with the land'use attorney. Chair moved the motion to end the contract and a colleague seconded; an attending council member on the call recorded an affirmative vote. "Susan says aye," the chair noted during roll call.
Other manager report items reviewed by staff included an administrative calendar to schedule annual tasks, onboarding and oath requirements for newly appointed committee volunteers, and the village's native tree program (last year more than 30 trees planted; this year 18 private requests plus right'of'way replacements). The manager said the village will work with the University of Maryland Institute of Governmental Services and Research on a VMA annual survey and invited council input on survey questions.
The manager described changes to the leaf'bag distribution program (opt'in to reduce waste and costs), and confirmed that contracted leaf vacuuming will start the week of Oct. 13. Staff also reported an incoming variance application for 7209 Delfield Street and reminded the council that public notice and a 20'day posting period are required before a hearing.
Council members approved a certificate of appreciation for Joe and Josie, owners of the Brookfield Market, who sold the business after long service to the village. The council approved the minutes from the prior meeting. The treasurer noted village reserves exceed $6 million, with roughly $1.5 million targeted for walkability and other streets capital improvements; the treasurer cautioned revenues are sensitive to broader market conditions.
The meeting concluded after soliciting additional resident comments and confirming plans to reconvene for a special meeting to consider the sidewalk contractor award.
