The Martin's Additions Election Committee unanimously adopted a participatory meeting format, approved its committee guidelines for 2026, set a yearlong meeting calendar, and voted to forward a three‑prong civic‑engagement proposal to the Village Council.
Marty, chair of the election committee, proposed the participatory format to allow residents to speak during agenda discussions rather than only in a designated public‑comment slot. “I move that we do a participatory format for our meetings this year,” Marty said; members voted in favor and Marty said the vote was unanimous.
The committee slated its regular monthly meeting schedule (generally first Mondays, with an October 8 exception) so staff and members can prepare material for council deadlines. The committee also formally adopted the committee guidelines for 2026.
The group discussed recruitment and outreach. Chair proposed posting an invitation on the village listserv to fill an open seat and said the draft would be circulated to committee members before posting. The chair also asked the village manager, Michael Silliman, to set up the committee’s official village email address for formal correspondence.
On civic engagement, the committee endorsed a three‑prong package drafted in last year’s report: a one‑page job description for council candidates, a short brochure or budget‑impact summary for new or prospective residents, and an earlier, substantive village meeting timed before the nomination period to discuss budgets and encourage civic participation. Arthur Alexander and council liaison Alexa were asked to consider implementation options and the committee agreed to forward the proposal to the Village Council with a cover note explaining the committee’s election‑related rationale.
Assignments and next steps included: chair will draft the RFP for voter‑roll verification, Elizabeth will take minutes, Michael (village manager) and Mike Zelensky will research referendum wording in neighboring communities, and the committee will reconvene on October 8 to begin reviewing proposed regulatory changes.
The meeting closed shortly after 9 p.m.
