The community events committee convened Monday night and reviewed this year nd next year—vent planning, with members pushing to collect better attendance data and assign a designated lead for each event.
Chair called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. and announced that Turner Lane speed bumps are installed and signed, praising the work: "The signs are up, and they did a fantastic job." Committee members noted some neighborhood pushback about the bumps but did not take formal action on them.
Much of the meeting focused on events. One organizer reported that a recent ice-skating outing "had 8 people, come out on skates," plus several additional visitors. Members said the low turnout was likely due to weather and competing June weekend activities; they agreed to ask residents directly what events they want via a fall annual survey and a more targeted, earlier poll for events that the committee plans to repeat.
Staff outlined plans to add event photos and short testimonials to the village website and to produce a concise end-of-year report for the incoming committee. Members recommended keeping a simple folder of procedures and contacts for each event to ease transition when new volunteers take over and suggested using sign-ups (Eventbrite or similar) to measure demand and permit cancellations when turnout is too low.
The committee also discussed the street-captain and block-party programs, noting some vacant captain roles and the burden of doorstep flyer distribution. Ideas included evolving the captains uties and occasionally inviting active captains to committee meetings to coordinate local block-level events.
Organizers circulated a sign-up sheet for the July 4 party and asked members to take a single shift; the event was described as 2:00-5:00 p.m. with setup from 1:00-2:30, event management roughly 2:30-4:30 and cleanup starting about 4:30 and running until tasks are done.
Before leaving, a member moved to approve the minutes from the previous meeting; David moved the motion and Barbara seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
The committee closed with brief thanks for the year and reminders about recruiting volunteers and preparing materials for the incoming council in July.
