Board awards $383,008.50 contract for windows and doors to Centimeters Construction

The Orono Public School District Board approved a construction contract for window and door replacements, awarding the low base bid of $383,008.50 to Centimeters Construction with two alternates totaling $111,400 if accepted.
Business Director Nick Tainter told the board the work will focus on the Discovery Center and priority areas across campus, and that project timing is planned for summer months with completion by August. Tainter said the district funded the work with long-term facility maintenance (LTFM) bond proceeds and that, while the window-and-door bids ran slightly over the project estimate, the district remains on budget when combined with other maintenance work approved earlier. "We've got the recommendation to the board tonight to approve the low base bid, in the amount of $383,008.50," Tainter said.
Tainter said there were two alternates: Alternate 1 for $40,900 and Alternate 2 for $70,500. He identified Centimeters Construction as the low responsible bidder and noted the firm had previously worked on an indoor-air-quality project for the district.
The board moved, seconded and approved the award by roll-call.
Why it matters: The work addresses building envelope and safety concerns and is scheduled for the summer to limit disruption. Funding from LTFM bonds avoids a new levy or operating-budget drawdown.
What’s next: Project management will be handled by district staff and partners; construction is expected to start in June and finish by August.
