Neighbor to Neighbor seeks volunteers for senior supports; supervisor postpones solar ordinance and schedules public hearing

Tyrone Wilson, program director for Neighbor to Neighbor's senior companion program, told council the nonprofit has operated in the area for about two-and-a-half years and seeks volunteers to provide rides to medical appointments, pantry deliveries and short companion visits for isolated seniors.
"Our goal is to work with our elderly, make sure that the elderly get to the doctor appointment..." Wilson said, offering a phone number for follow-up and printed materials for the county to distribute. He said the program serves Horry, Georgetown and Williamsburg counties and pays volunteers a mileage rate for certain services.
In the county supervisor's report, the supervisor clarified that the second reading of the solar ordinance had been postponed to the next council meeting after several council members received constituent comments and concerns. The supervisor said the public hearing on the ordinance will be held at the next meeting beginning at 5:45 p.m., with a three-minute limit for each speaker, and that members should use the extra time to make any needed adjustments before the second reading.
A council member asked the supervisor to explore eliminating employee furlough days that had been discussed in the budget; the supervisor said he would meet with the finance department and try to report back to council at the next meeting. A district 5 town hall was also announced for the next day at the Williamsburg County Recreation Department (Thurgood Marshall location) at 6:00 p.m.
