Williamsburg County Council voted on April 16 to adopt ordinance 2024‑04, which amends Exhibit B of the 1995 Joint County Industrial Park agreement with Berkeley County to include the DRS Naval Power Systems project.
Attorney Shurer explained the amendment relates to a Berkeley County development and was previously approved for amendment in Berkeley County. She said the project — identified in a press release as DRS Naval Power Systems — is expected to make a $120,000,000 net investment and create 58 new jobs at a Berkeley County facility. The council was told the amendment allows Williamsburg County to share in a portion of revenue generated by the multi‑county park under state law, but it does not authorize any physical development on property inside Williamsburg County.
On a motion to adopt, seconded and carried by voice vote, the council adopted ordinance 2024‑04 on third reading. The transcript records the adoption vote by voice; no roll call tally was recorded in the public minutes included in the transcript.
