District staff outline MTSS audit and plans to shore up student supports

Trustees raised concerns that Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) appeared in last year’s SIP for the middle school but was absent this year. Administration acknowledged inconsistencies across buildings and described an audit of MTSS implementation beginning at the elementary level and moving upward. Assistant administrators noted staffing cuts and enrollment shifts had reduced some in-school supports, and they described steps the district is taking to rebuild instructional pairs and other interventions to identify and remediate student learning gaps.
Jake (assistant superintendent/principal) said the audit will take time and that a fully pervasive MTSS at the secondary level is a multi-year effort; staff committed to identify exemplar districts, consult internal experts (including Ms. Hensel), and report progress to the board. Trustees welcomed the audit and suggested updating SIP language to reflect current practice and a timeline for remediation.
No board action was required beyond direction to proceed with the MTSS audit and to return to the board with findings and proposed next steps.
