The City of Lampasas approved a $500 hotel-occupancy-tax (HOT) grant to the TFWC 36 Club to support advertising for the Lampasas County Fair.
Sheila Chang, who identified herself as president of the 36 Club, told the council the fair — a three-day event held in conjunction with Spring Ho — showcases handmade and home-produced entries and typically draws several hundred visitors. “We are requesting $1,000 to help with the cost of advertising,” Chang said, describing a plan to use flyers, newspaper and radio advertising and a registration questionnaire to document where visitors stayed.
Council members questioned whether the fair met HOT eligibility criteria — specifically whether it would produce hotel nights — and asked for accountability measures. Staff and other speakers described a recent change that opened the fair to entrants beyond Lampasas County, which they said has increased out-of-area participation. One council member moved to award $500 to the club; the motion received a recorded 'Aye' and the grant was approved.
Councilors and staff asked organizers to provide post-event information about where participants stayed and other indicators of local economic impact as part of the reimbursement process.
