Joe, speaking for Connecticut Hospice, said the new compounding pharmacy is "complete" and that staff are "chopping our way through the thicket of regulations" required to open. He said the pharmacy is intended to be outward-facing so it could fill prescriptions and provide infusion services to community patients and to Connecticut Hospice's home hospice and home health programs. "It may be possible to arrange in some way bringing patients who are, in fact, not Connecticut Hospice patients for...same day admission for midline placement," he said, and estimated serving patients within roughly a 50-mile radius might be feasible once approvals and training are finished.
Joe said the organization is pursuing board sign-off and additional training, including midline placement, and expected more progress by the council's next meeting in April. He also noted compounding capacity is scarce in Connecticut, especially for home-based patients, and framed the new pharmacy as a potential resource for other agencies.
