Livingston County Cares honors volunteers; board appoints new director of long-term care

A delegation representing Livingston County Cares on Jan. 14 thanked the Livingston County Board of Supervisors for ongoing support and presented the organization’s volunteer-recognition program. The group said Livingston County Cares, founded after Hurricane Katrina more than 20 years ago, has organized more than 100,000 service missions nationwide and solicited nominations for the 2026 awards.
The presentation listed several nominees and recognized Claire VanDerby as the Livingston County Cares Volunteer of the Year. The delegation also described a free online volunteer hub that connects volunteers with nonprofit organizations and helps nonprofits recruit and manage volunteers; the platform is intended to expand volunteer recruitment across county towns.
Separately, the board approved the appointment of Samantra V. Spencer as director of long-term care for the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. Following the appointment, Spencer spoke briefly and thanked the board and community: "This is so amazing," she said, adding that she felt "blessed to be here" and called the role "an opportunity of a lifetime." The appointment was approved by roll call.
