Atascosa County approves Axon body cameras for constables and OKs security upgrade quote for sheriff's office

Atascosa County Commissioners Court approved two IT and security procurements on Feb. 9: an agreement with Axon to provide body cameras for all four constables and a separate quote from Alliance for Community Solutions (ACS) for cameras and door controls at the new sheriff’s office.
Justin Voskis of the county IT department said constable offices have outdated body and vehicle cameras and recommended Axon’s agreement at $6,342.08 per year for up to five years (the price is locked for five years but the agreement is annually renewed). The court approved the Axon agreement.
Justin Bosco (IT) presented a $30,711.26 quote from ACS for cameras and door controls for the sheriff’s office and other outstanding projects. The quote proposes payment milestones (50% upfront, 25% on delivery, 25% on completion). Commissioners raised questions about paying 50% upfront; IT staff said the vendor relationship and interlocal with ACS explain the payment terms, and the court approved the motion with the understanding that county attorney review would occur prior to final execution.
During the infrastructure update, county staff also discussed security options for record storage (changing access codes, installing card readers, adding an auto-close timer or building a separate controlled access door) and asked staff to pursue bids and estimates for the different approaches.
