Garfield County’s assessor told the Board on Jan. 20 that the county’s total assessed value for 2025 stood at $2,670,974,620, an 11.2% decline from 2024. The assessor attributed the reduction wholly to lower oil and gas valuations despite increases in residential assessments.
County officials noted the decline translated into a drop in county government assessed revenue—from about $41 million in 2024 to roughly $36 million in 2025—and that mill levies adjust across taxing jurisdictions so total revenue across local governments remained nearly flat. Commissioners discussed the budgetary implications and the need to account for the change in the coming budget process.
The Board moved to ratify the amended certification of levies and revenue for 2026 (the document signed previously) and approved the motion by voice vote.
