Chaffee County commissioners on Jan. 20 approved a slate of founding members to the county’s new Destination Management Council, a body intended to replace the former visitors bureau and steward lodging‑tax funded destination efforts.
County staff said Resolution 20 20 6 6 (as printed in the meeting packet) establishes the council with 11 founding voting members drawn from lodging, municipal taxing jurisdictions, economic development partners, the Chamber of Commerce and recreation‑based businesses. Staff said letters of interest and qualifications were reviewed and that appointments would be for three‑year terms.
Commissioners praised the balanced representation and thanked volunteers; one commissioner specifically thanked Mickey Hodge for agreeing to serve and noted her background running the county fairgrounds. A motion to adopt the resolution was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Staff said the county will return to the board with formal appointment paperwork and next steps for standing up the council.
