The Cornwall-Lebanon School District board on Feb. 9 recognized a string of student achievements, from statewide art honors to athletic and academic awards, and heard a student council update ahead of routine board business.
Ryan Brophy, speaking for the Cedar Crest High School Student Council, reviewed upcoming events including the King of Hearts pep rally and dance Feb. 13–14 and said the council will report fundraising totals for the American Heart Association at a later date.
Union Canal fifth grader Benny Root was introduced as one of 13 statewide winners in the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General’s drug‑free calendar contest. District staff said Benny’s artwork was chosen from more than 1,300 entries across 44 counties and that he received a $529 deposit to a PA 529 college and career savings account; Benny and his parents stood to be recognized.
Coach Alicia Arnold recognized five student‑athletes named to All‑State or academic All‑State teams and highlighted goalkeeper Makaylin/Mikaelin Webber’s selection to the All‑State second team. The coach noted the academic threshold for the academic All‑State team and described the students’ combined athletic and academic accomplishments.
Principal Mark Brown presented Piper O’Hara as South Lebanon Elementary’s 2026 Student of the Year. Piper told the board she appreciated her teachers and family and listed school activities—band, chorus, and clubs—that shaped her elementary experience. “It is an honor to be chosen as a student of the year,” the student said during brief remarks.
The recognitions were followed by routine board and superintendent remarks, including reminders about kindergarten orientation, makeup days and district events. The presentations concluded before the board moved into consent and action items later in the agenda.
The board’s next public work session is scheduled for Monday, March 9.
