Falls Church transportation advisory committee presents heat maps, prioritizes traffic calming and data-driven dashboard

Beto highlighted newly created heat maps that aggregate bicycle and pedestrian incidents and show concentration along the city’s highways and major corridors. The CACT plans a transportation dashboard that will assign red/yellow/green categories to project progress and will be updated quarterly.
The committee reviewed recent and ongoing projects — Nolan Street, Greenway Downs, Southwest Street and Roosevelt Street — and said it will continue monitoring eight additional traffic calming efforts. Several CACT members noted the need for increased outreach to residents and more frequent engagement beyond monthly meetings.
Council members thanked the CACT for the report and discussed next steps including an Oak Street Elementary walk audit with police, questions about normalizing heat-map data for user counts, and how to balance neighborhood-driven NTC projects with system-level priorities based on crash data.
