House honors Abbot Massey with invitation resolution and family recognition

The Georgia House of Representatives on Friday adopted an invitation resolution honoring Abbot Massey, recognizing his long public service, leadership in agriculture and civic contributions. Speaker John Burns presented the resolution and invited Massey’s family to the well; the clerk read the resolution’s text describing Massey’s roles, including work for the attorney general, service as director of the Department of Commerce (now Economic Development), leadership of the Georgia Poultry Federation and other honors noted in the resolution.
Family members, including his son Louis, and friends addressed members from the gallery, sharing memories of Massey’s decades of involvement with state government and civic organizations. Louis and other family speakers thanked members for the recognition and related personal anecdotes about Massey’s connection to the State Capitol and his advocacy on behalf of the poultry industry and higher education.
Members on the floor added brief tributes recalling Massey’s impact on the State Capitol community and his decades of service. Speaker Burns invited family members to the South Annie Room to meet with representatives and take photos after the proceedings.
