Georgia House reads dozens of bills, including multiple appropriations measures

The Georgia House of Representatives opened its session Friday with routine morning business and then the clerk read a long slate of bills for first and second reading across multiple policy areas. The list included measures touching on retrocession of federal lands, physician assistants, forest resources, veterans’ cemeteries, personal assistive mobility devices, state employee health insurance, Quality Basic Education Act programs and numerous appropriations measures for state fiscal years beginning July 1, 2025 and July 1, 2026.

Speaker John Burns presided as the clerk recited bill captions and sponsors. Committee chairs later reported to the floor, and Representative Lynn Smith’s Natural Resources and Environment committee submitted a ‘do pass’ recommendation on House Resolution 1008. The House adopted its order of business for the day and dispensed with the reading of the prior day’s journal.

The volume of bills read reflects routine session workflow: bills are placed on first or second reading by the clerk, then referred to standing committees for further consideration. Several bills mentioned by caption are appropriations or budget-related measures that will move into committee consideration and the Appropriations Committee’s calendar.

The clerk’s reading also included House Resolution 1013, the invitation resolution honoring Abbot Massey, and multiple privilege resolutions the House adopted without objection. No final passage votes on substantive bills were recorded during the reading period; the session’s business proceeded by referral and committee action.
