District facilities director reported the high school phase-two closeout and nearly completed pool structural steel; Lakeshore Elementary contractors expect substantial completion in April, furniture delivery in March, staff walkthroughs in May and public opening in August.
Matt Erwin, the district’s director of facilities, told the North Syracuse Central School District Board of Education on Feb. 12, 2026, that phase two of the high school capital project is in closeout and the new gymnasium is fully open. “Our new gym is fully open,” Erwin said, and the district plans a ribbon cutting at the auditorium ahead of the next show.
Erwin said pool structural steel is wrapping up with one to two weeks of small bracing remaining and that crews will continue work on locker rooms, the mezzanine and the mechanical room while pool excavation proceeds. He also reported progress on a districtwide energy performance contract (EPC) that has installed LED lighting in secondary buildings and is continuing parking-lot lighting work.
Tina, identified in the meeting as representing Lakeshore Elementary, described the school’s reopening timeline. Contractors expect to finish primary work in four to six weeks and complete punch-list items in April, with new furniture scheduled to arrive in March and occupancy preparations, including staff walkthroughs, planned in May. She said the district hopes to open the building to the public and hold kindergarten orientation in August.
Dr. Ward, who briefed the board on planning, said the district is combining a utilization study with building-condition surveys to develop a long-range plan to guide decisions about district configuration over the next 30 years. “We have a utilization study that we’re trying to wrap our heads around right now,” Dr. Ward said, adding that there is no perfect plan and leadership must select the best available option.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the Lakeshore layout, visitor secure-entry routing and which classroom wings were not renovated. Facilities staff confirmed that shared service spaces—library, main office and other common areas—were renovated and that two classroom wings were not part of the current phase. Erwin and Tina also said playground work remains and some finishing touches will occur in spring.
The update signals completion of major shared-space renovations at Lakeshore and continuing work across secondary buildings under the district’s capital program. The board identified the utilization study and the long-range plan as the next steps to shape facilities decisions going forward.
