Lee County approves multiple emergency-services funding motions, CDBG acceptance and equipment purchases

At its Jan. 20 meeting the board approved funding actions including a contingency payment to Stateville Volunteer Fire Department, $22,087.07 to cover a turnout-gear grant shortfall for Thomas Walker Fire Department, acceptance of a Western Lee housing CDBG Phase 1 grant (Resolution 26-001) and a $10,000 transfer-station trailer purchase. The board also authorized staff to pursue radio services quotes and approved replacement of a 911 data-room AC unit.
The Lee County Board of Supervisors approved several funding and procurement actions at its Jan. 20 meeting in Johnson.
Grant and equipment funding: The board voted to forward $91,121.90 to Stateville Volunteer Fire Department contingent on grant reimbursement; it also approved funding the Thomas Walker Fire Department's turnout-gear shortfall of $22,087.07 so the department could purchase 16 sets of gear after receiving roughly 70% of the grant award. A motion was made directing the rescue squad to obtain three quotes on repairing or replacing an ambulance engine.
Housing grant and procurement: The county administrator reported progress on a $3 million CDBG award and the board approved Resolution 26-001 to accept Western Lee Housing Project Phase 1 and associated paperwork. The board also approved purchase of a pinwheel-hook air-brake tag-along trailer for the transfer station at $10,000 (one supervisor abstained). A separate motion to relocate the Gibson Station dump site was made but later died for lack of sufficient support.
Infrastructure and services: The board authorized pursuing a service agreement to maintain three propane generators at transmitter sites (estimated $470.25 per site annually) and approved replacing an aging air-conditioning unit in the 911 data room after staff presented quotes ranging from $7,700 to $8,500. Board members also authorized staff and the sheriff's office to obtain quotes and consider switching radio/service vendors for cruiser communications and courthouse security systems.
The board recessed to conduct county administrator interviews on Jan. 27.
