Kerr County signs onto work experience agreement for nearly $890,000 dislocated worker grant

The court approved a memorandum of understanding and work‑experience agreement enabling Kerr County to participate in a U.S. Department of Labor National Dislocated Worker Grant administered through Workforce Solutions Alamo.

Mister Whitson described the grant as an approximately $890,000 federal program that became available after a presidential disaster declaration and state allocation. The intent is to create temporary positions to help residents whose employment was disrupted by the flood and to augment county and city recovery operations (engineering, road and bridge, and other functions).

Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the agreement unanimously.

Why it matters: The grant brings federal funds to the local recovery effort and may help county departments clear backlogs tied to flood repairs; the court emphasized interlocal cooperation with the cities of Kerrville and Ingram and anticipated updates from the long‑term recovery team.
