Tiffany Webb, King William County’s Commonwealth’s Attorney, asked the Board of Supervisors to approve two personnel-related budget items: a $10,000 base-salary increase for the records assistant/manager who handles body-worn camera review, and a $15,000 base supplement for the deputy commonwealth’s attorney position to help recruit a qualified candidate.
Webb described the records assistant role as essential to prosecutorial work, noting the position reviewed "486 hours and 44 minutes" of body-worn camera footage so far this year and that the current base salary is about $36,663 (roughly $17.62/hour). She argued the records assistant’s pay does not meet living-wage calculations and contrasted it with higher regional salaries for comparable positions.
On the deputy position, Webb said the seat has been vacant since December 2024, three candidates applied and only one met the qualifications; that candidate reportedly earns about $139,307 in their current role. Webb said the deputy position is partially funded by a $40,000 DCJS grant and warned that failing to fill the post could jeopardize grant funding and the county’s ability to prosecute violence-against-women cases effectively.
Board members expressed sympathy for staffing needs but repeatedly cited the county’s unresolved fiscal picture and the ongoing audit. One supervisor moved to table Webb’s request and direct staff to provide a financial analysis; the motion was seconded and approved, with the matter to be revisited at the Nov. 17 board meeting.
