Resident criticizes proposed library policies, says they restrict access and amount to censorship

Fran Freimark, a resident of the 4th District, used her public‑comment time to criticize recently posted library policies and to accuse the library board of promoting book restrictions that she said would amount to censorship.
"Apparently, 3 of the library board, a majority, believe their prime duty is not to provide a good balanced library collection, but to be cultural warriors ... who believe in censoring books for children," Freimark said. She told the board she located the full policies on the county website and urged supervisors and residents to read them; the library board was scheduled to consider ratification the next night.
Freimark also criticized the county’s contract with a library services provider, saying it would result in paying "more for less service for the next 10 years." She said she intends to bring her concerns to the library board at its meeting.
Board members noted the library renovations and other library-related items on the agenda and encouraged public participation at the library board meeting.
