A board member moved to convene a closed session and read a statutory justification (quoted in the meeting as "per code of Virginia 2.2 dash 37 11 a 1") citing personnel discussion and review of prospective candidates for employment, including the review of candidates for county administrator and the definition of the interview process. The motion was seconded and the board entered closed session.
After completing the closed session, the board reconvened in open session and a member moved that the King William County Board of Supervisors "certify that in accordance with Virginia code section 2.2 dash 37 12 d that the closed meeting just held [was] authorized by the Freedom of Information Act and that while in closed session, only the matters for which this closed session was called were discussed." Several members then stated on the record that they "certify." Those named on the record saying "I certify" included Miss Robinson, Mr. Edwards, Mr. Hodges, Miss Bancroft and Chair Catlett.
The chair noted there were no actions taken as a result of the closed session. The board then made and approved a motion to adjourn.
What happened next: the board did not announce any hire or take a formal appointment in open session. The recruiter said the board would keep the public posted on the recruitment process following the meeting.
