At its Sept. 22 meeting the King William County Board of Supervisors approved multiple fiscal and settlement actions.
Opt‑in to opioid settlements: County counsel presented two separate resolutions to opt the county into multi‑state opioid settlements arising from litigation and bankruptcy settlements related to Purdue Pharma (Sackler family) and seven other manufacturers. Staff explained the nationwide settlement pools are large but that local shares typically are modest; the board authorized the interim county administrator to execute settlement documents for both Resolution 25‑53 (Purdue) and Resolution 25‑54 (other manufacturers). The board approved both resolutions by roll call.
SRO grant acceptance: The board accepted a School Resource Officer (SRO) grant for FY‑26 in the amount of $154,303 (award number referenced) to continue the SRO program. Staff said state funding of $105,007.59 will cover most of the award with a local match of $48,005.44 to be handled within existing salary lines. The board voted to appropriate the grant and authorize the budget adjustments.
3 Rivers Health District carryover: Staff requested and the board approved appropriating a $10,906.30 carryover relating to the 3 Rivers Health District’s FY‑25 allocation to pay outstanding FY‑25 claims that were processed in the new fiscal year because of staff turnover. The appropriation was approved by roll call.
Votes: Resolutions 25‑53 and 25‑54 (opioid settlements) passed (roll call recorded unanimous 'Aye'); resolution 25‑56 (SRO grant acceptance) passed; appropriation of $10,906.30 for 3 Rivers Health District carryover passed.
