King William supervisors accept county administrator's resignation; appoint interim and greenlight executive search

Following the resignation vote, the board considered short-term staffing options. Chair Catlin described an existing contract with the Berkeley Group and said the firm had identified Clarence Mundy to serve immediately as interim county administrator. The board approved work order 2 to bring the Berkeley Group on for interim services and work order 3, a $15,000 lump-sum executive-search engagement to handle position profiling, advertising, applicant screening and interviews.
An unnamed board member voiced fiscal concern about the timing and cost. That member said the county had paid roughly $313,790 since last September for related personnel expenses and estimated interim consultant costs "if it's $7,500 a week, which is really at $150 an hour," and asked, "where are we getting this money from?" Chair Catlin acknowledged the concern but said county leadership needs experienced management in place to address the county's financial issues.
Clarence Mundy, presented by the Berkeley Group, was introduced as an experienced local government manager who previously served in interim and county-administrator roles and holds a bachelor's and master's degree in business administration with public-administration concentration. The board voted to appoint Mundy as acting interim county administrator effective Monday, June 16. Roll-call votes on the appointment included Mister Hodges — Aye; Mister Edwards — Aye; Miss Robinson — Aye; Chair Cowan — Aye.
What happens next: the Berkeley Group will provide interim management starting June 16 while it executes the executive search; the search firm has a stated 120-day target to present candidates for a permanent administrator. The board did not set additional fiscal offsets at the meeting; a supervisor requested follow-up on funding sources and budget impacts.
