County agrees to relinquish UDOT permit on grandfathered highway billboard to local city

Council member David Burton and staff discussed the signs history: the billboard pre-dates recent city ordinances that banned new billboards and is grandfathered under an agreement dating to the 1970s. County staff and city representatives said the city and Chamber of Commerce will continue to manage content and that the countys role should end with the UDOT permit relinquishment.
Commissioners authorized the chair to produce the letter to UDOT and tasked staff to confirm UDOTs permit officer requirements. The motion passed by voice vote; commissioners agreed the draft could be finalized administratively and returned to UDOT for processing.
